FEEL THE STING: THE MICROTECH BEE PUSH DAGGER
Share
The Push Dagger style of knife became popular in the nineteenth century amongst Civil War soldiers as well as gamblers throughout the west as a discreet way of keeping a concealed carry piece. The T or L shaped handle allowed for a smaller overall footprint with a easy and quick deployment. What are the things someone looks for when choosing a knife for self-defense? They are looking for easy concealment, a trusty and firm grip as well as a strong and aggressive blade. One brand that has been expanding their knife lineups to every corner of the market has been Microtech. Recently they have tried their hand at making their own rendition of the push dagger but with the Microtech styling and quality.
The Bee is a tactical push dagger with a small footprint suitable for most carry set ups. The kydex sheath with pocket clip is stong and secured by two large phillips head screws that give you the confidence to forget about the knife until you need it. Microtech has gone with a classic L shaped handle configuration with a choice of titanium and G-10 handle scales. One of the most important aspects of Microtech is their focus on styling and design as well as utility. The titanium and G-10 handle scales allow for some extraordinary color ways that can match any EDC set up. The wide variety of customization possibilities from Microtech will also make this piece a favorite amongst collectors as they can collect each and every unique iteration.
The next standout feature is the blade styling on the Bee. They all have a M390 Wharncliffe blade that just strikes a perfect balance with the handle shape. As reviewed, we have a non-serrated and a fully serrated option. The blade is so thin that the serrations take up about 25% of the blade surface meaning you can really do some damage with these pieces. The non serrated iterations have a more unobtrusive and sleek design that looks a little more on the elegant side. The slight curve on the Wharncliffe blade will still give you the satisfaction of cutting anything you place in its path. With the more frequent use of anodization on these metals, we are also going to be seeing some more interesting colorways come out on these blades. With Microtechs love of DLC, I am sure we will be seeing some unique use cases of that in the future as well.
