PICK OF THE WEEK: SERGEY ROGOVETS CLEAVER

Was carrying a cleaver as a part of the everyday carry set up something you ever considered? Why not? Well, the first thing that may pop into your head when considering this proposition is "wouldn't it be too big?" Maybe, maybe. "Wouldn't it look a little weird?" Maybe, maybe. "Who would do such a thing?" The answer to that question is maybe you. Everything that was difficult about adding this extremely effective slicing device to your set up has been rectified, I am here to report. The size of this custom piece from Sergey Rogovets is smaller than the cleaver you may find in the common kitchen. It also features a button-lock folding action that makes it more pocketable than ever. Maybe not quite pocketable for skinny jeans, but who wears skinny jeans anymore.

Sergey Rogovets us known for making some of the best knives in the industry in both fit and finish. I couldn't think of a better maker that can take something seemingly so impractical and make into a piece that you can actually carry every day. Once you get past that you're carrying a cleaver in your pocket and start looking into the details of the piece does it start to give you a little giddy feeling. This example features a titanium handle with deep set holes that reveal the only pop of color you can find on this piece. The rich purple inlay isn't a color you see often within the EDC space. The pop of color makes for the perfect contrast for the all titanium construction. Moving on to the blade was a Cleaver style (go figure) blade constructed from S45VN. The blade length comes in at 3.55'" with an even longer cutting edge. This is due the downward sweeping nose of the blade that gives it some extra length on the bottom of the blade. The blade is locked in place with a button lock. When going between the closed and open position, the ceramic bearing insures its as smooth as humanly possible. It is a pretty thick boy, measuring .6 inches in width and weighing 11.43oz. It does feature a pocket clip for a more secure fitting.

In the off chance you were actually considering carrying a cleaver with you in your day to day, there is no better time than now. The improved form factor mixed with the outstanding quality that comes from Sergey Rogovets, you have no excuse. From a pure collecting standpoint, the Cleaver is also a fantastic piece for any serious collection due to its high-quality manufacturing, finishing and low production numbers.
